The mission of the Chandler High School AFJROTC program is to "Develop citizens of character, dedicated to serving their school, community, and nation." It is a high school program offered at 875 high schools worldwide that prepares young Americans to become better citizens.
Our cadets learn the type of discipline, leadership, and social graces that lead to a finely-tuned body and mind. They are taught valuable time and stress management skills as well as note taking and study/test taking techniques. Completing the AFJROTC program is no easy task; but, for those who have the drive to succeed, AFJROTC is the gateway to building a successful career through diligent preparation that must start as a high school freshman.
Cadets are held to higher standards of conduct and integrity; these standards are spelled out in their Cadet Guide and their Chandler High School Student Handbook. They alone are responsible for their level of personal and professional conduct and development; a level ultimately determined by the strength of their personal commitment. Cadets quickly realize that this is not just another program or just another course---it's a way of life.
Academics is our #1 priority. Air Force Junior ROTC offers every cadet an educational environment fostering academic achievement, health and wellness, character and leadership development, life skills, community service, and patriotism. These days, a college education comes at a high price. Many students are stuck working their way through college, or taking out loans they'll spend the next 10 years of their lives paying back. Competition for college scholarships starts with the freshman year of high school. Air Force Junior ROTC offers an opportunity to compete for one of the most generous college scholarship programs available. AFJROTC also enables students who desire to get a head start on their college credits a great opportunity to do so. All AFJROTC academic courses are eligible for college elective credits when a grade of "B" or higher is earned and the students apply and pay the required fees per credit hour to the college.
Our commitment is first and foremost to helping cadets succeed as students. Cadets gain access to resources that help them excel academically.
Cadets have the opportunity to excel as leaders while participating in a premier values-based program. All activities are cadet initiated, planned, led, executed and documented.
The wellness program develops leaders who are physically and mentally tough and encourages a healthy lifestyle, physical fitness, movement behavior and psychomotor performance. Students who successfully complete 3 semesters of AFJROTC will earn their physical education requirement for graduation.
The shared experiences of cadets creates lifelong bonds. Cadets interact with a diverse cross section of the student body, many of whom they would not otherwise know.
Students who successfully complete at least two years of AFJROTC and decide to enter the military after graduation may, at the discretion of each respective military service, receive higher rank and pay.
Cadets are provided an educational environment fostering academic achievement, health and wellness, character and leadership, life skills, community service, and patriotism.
The Air Force is funding scholarships for AFJROTC cadets to attend private pilot training at public/private universities during the summer months. This scholarship program is a joint US Air Force and industry initiative intended to inspire and encourage high school students to pursue aviation careers. Cadets are selected through a competitive application process. The scholarship pays for round-trip airfare, room and board, collegiate academics, and flight hours required to become eligible to earn a Private Pilot’s Certificate (PPC) through an in-residence program that is approximately eight (8) weeks long.
This scholarship pays for selected students to attend college through the AFROTC program to commission as a Second Lieutenant (2Lt) upon graduation from college. Selected cadets will become AFROTC cadets and follow AFROTC scholarship procedures. To be nominated for the J-100 scholarship, cadets have to meet both the GPA (3.0 unweighted) and test score (ACT or SAT of 22/1100) requirement.
